Celebrities Who do a Terrible Job Communicating

Some in the public eye do a good job communicating — others less so. Here’s some celebrities who do a terrible job communicating:

Ryan Lochte

The man is a gifted athlete, but what he’s got in a swimming pool doesn’t quite make up for some of his choices. Thinking it was okay to lie to the public about an incident during the Rio Olympics, acting like he had been an innocent bystander when he was a full-fledged participant in what he later referred to as a juvenile prank. Hint — when you are in your 30’s it’s time to stop with juvenile pranks that land you in jail and then in hot water with everyone else because you felt it a good idea to lie about it to your parents and the rest of the world.

Kathy Griffin

We get that many in Hollywood are not fans of the current political administration, but who would actually think it would be a good move to tape a public rant about it while holding a decapitated head of President Trump. For some time after that, she kept defending her choice and then all of a sudden she came out with another video proclaiming her career was on the skids because people were holding her responsible for her actions. News flash …. !

Tom Cruise

Still one of the top-paid actors in Hollywood, most of his movies see blockbuster numbers, but he seems to have some problems when it comes to personal public conversations. Thought it happened quite some time ago, will anyone ever forget the famous interview on Oprah, where Cruise was jumping on the furniture in an effort to show how much he was in love. There was also the time he publicly said basically that post-partum depression was a crock and those “suffering” from it should get out of a bed and quit whining.

Sean Spicer

Admittedly, he’s not the usual kind of celebrity spoken of on these lists. Spicer had a fair amount of time in the spotlight early in 2017. His entire job was about communications, and though he may feel he tried his best, he couldn’t seem to get to his prepared messages without inciting near brawls on the press room floor, time and again.

John McEnroe

Really was anyone surprised when he made the statement about Serena Williams, though being one of the best female tennis players in the world would probably not even rank as high as 700th on the men’s side of the equation. McEnroe has gotten older, but he was always one who liked to stir drama and controversy. Hasn’t changed that much over the years.

Mark Salling

Sometimes bad communicators get there because they don’t know when NOT to speak up. The 35-year old Glee actor faces four to seven years in prison because the guy decided it was okay to show his girlfriend at the time some of his stash of child porn on his laptop. She reported it (yeah!) and he did not pass go before heading off to jail.

They all need the help of better Public Relations counsel.
