Today’s professionals spend around half of their waking hours at their job — if not more. While some jobs that involve manual labor and construction come with obvious hazards, working in an office environment doesn’t always lead to great health. A lot of desk-based occupations come with problems like excess stress, sedentary behavior and various unhealthy habits that can take their toll on the average worker.

Although the desk and chair in an office environment are probably the two most important pieces of furniture, it’s worth noting that there are other accessories that a professional can add to their desk to make their routine more comfortable. For instance, movable monitor arms and lifts for laptops are often useful, as are adjustable keyboard platforms with padded rests for sharp table edges.

Another element that many office workers overlook is the importance of good lighting. Although it’s tempting to assume that a computer screen will provide all the light a professional needs, the truth is that many professionals hurt their eyes by constantly squinting and straining their eyes to seek a computer screen. Lighting should include plenty of natural light from a close window, as well as supplemental light from an adjustable lamp.
